Graduation Information

The graduation commencement is a formal ceremony that demands special dress for our graduates and proper decorum for all. Expectations for behavior include respect for the event and a tone of soleminity. Please follow the stipulations provided for a successful graduation experience for students, families, and guest.

Doors at Community of Christ Auditorium open for guests at 6:15 p.m. Seniors should arrive at the Auditorium's assembly room no later than 6:15 p.m. on Monday evening for graduation. Graduates should enter the Auditorium through the west entrance and take the stairs or ramps to the lowest level. Do not bring purses, keys, or valuables to the assembly room expecting to leave them there during the ceremony. There is no one available to watch them or secure them. Leave these items with family members. The only things you should have with you in the room are those items that can be with you during the ceremony in the auditorium.


Dress Code

In order to participate in the ceremony, make sure your dress is appropriate as follows:

  • Graduation gowns should be neatly pressed.
  • Caps should be worn straight with tassels on the right side. NO WRITING ON CAPS.
  • Flowers or jewelry should not be worn with gown.
  • No gum, sunglasses, shorts, sandals, or tennis shoes should be worn with the graduation gown.

Rules of Conduct

The Community of Christ Auditorium is a private building which serves as the World Headquarters of the Community of Christ Temple. It is designed primarily for religious purposes, however it is frequently used by other organizations and there are certain limitations applicable set by the church governance applicable to use the facilities. Please note the following:

  • There shall be no disorderly conduct in or around the building.
  • There shall be no profanity or offensive language used by visitors or performers.
  • There shall be no tobacco used anywhere in the Auditorium, including restrooms.
  • The use of illegal drugs and alcoholic beverages in or around the building is strictly prohibited.
  • The possession of any weapons in or around the building is strictly prohibited.
  • There shall be no food or drink in any part of the building except those areas designated for such use.
  • Paper and refuse shall be placed in containers provided for such purposes
  • Access to the building is limited to those areas provided for in the rental agreement.
  • The Auditorium allows no balloons, confetti, banners, streamers, noisemakers, or air horns in the auditorium.
  • Failure to abide by the "NO PARKING" signs in the parking lots will result in the offending vehicles being towed at the owner's expense. [Designated parking areas are on the Directions page]
  • Parking is prohibited in the circle drives. The drives are used for emergency vehicles or drop-off and pick-up only.
  • Wheelchairs and/or baby strollers are prohibited in the aisles. The must be stored in either the east or west handicap platform areas.
  • Proper attire for guests is requested. No hats or shorts. The Auditorium is a church.
  • Balcony behind the stage is closed
  • Caps may not be tossed, thrown into the crowd, on stage, or towards individuals. The facultly speaker leads the tossing of the caps on the front lawn of the Auditoium following the recessional.
  • Graduates are not allowed to present anything to the R-7 Board Members as they receive their diplomas.
  • The LSN Class of 2018 would appreciate all guests' cooperation to the following rule so all graduates' names can be heard: The most important part of the ceremony for all attending is to hear the name of the graduate. The readers of the names do not stop for crowd disruptions. Guest who shout or use noisemakers will be escorted out.

FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE RULES WILL RESULT IN GRADUATES HAVING DIPLOMAS WITHHELD AND MAY NOT ATTEND PROJECT GRAD.


Ticket Collection Procedures and Seating at Community of Christ Auditorium

  • Graduation announcements ordered through Jostens are NOT tickets to the graduation ceremony.
  • A ticket is not a reserved seat. A ticket gains one person per ticket entrance to the building.
  • No one may gain admittance to the auditorium without a ticket in hand. One ticket per seat. Toddlers and infants require their own ticket if they are not in the lap of an adult - age limit for lap-seating is younger than 3 years of age.
  • Once a guest's ticket stub has been collected and he/she needs to exit the building; a ticket stub will be given to the guest in order to exit and return. The stub will be collected upon return.
  • There is no "saving seats" at commencement. Guests will be reminded they cannot save seats by ushers and noncompliance to this request will be referred to security.
  • ONCE THE CEREMONY HAS BEGUN, LATE GUESTS WILL BE DIRECTED TO BALCONY SEATING ONLY.
  • Guests cannot stand in the aisles due to fire codes and safety.

Graduate Processional/Ceremony Procedures

  • Graduates will line up in the Assembly Room with their mentors. Again, the only things you should have with you in the room are those items that can be with you during the ceremony in the auditorium.
  • Each senior will be issued a card with his/her name typed on it to be read at graduation.
  • Seniors will line up in pairs at the north ramp to enter for the processional.
  • Guests will not be allowed admittance to the auditorium once the graduates gather in the North Foyer for the processional. Once the processional is over, guests with tickets may enter or re-enter.
  • Shake Hands
  • Mentors and graduates will need to follow the lead of the ushers to enter the auditorium. Graduates will enter in pairs down the center aisle and fill in from the center aisle to the outside. Seating will be reserved.
  • Following the processional, the seniors will remain standing, and men will remove their caps for the "Crimson Banner," salute to the flag and class aspiration.
  • Seniors will sit in unison following the principal's lead.
  • After presentation of the class by Jeff Meisenheimer, principal, seniors will stand by row and proceed across the stage and receive a diploma cover as their names are read from the cards. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR NAME CARD AND BE WITH YOUR MENTOR IN ORDER TO CROSS THE STAGE.
  • Hand the name card to the appropriate reader at the left or right side of the stage.
  • Proceed to the center of the stage to receive diploma cover.
  • Shake the hand of the LSR-7 Board of Education representative.
  • Walk down the center stage steps, shake hands with Dr. Meisenheimer, greet your mentor, and return to your orginal seat.
  • Seniors will rise for the affirmation at the end of the ceremony and ushers will manage the recessional and direct graduates to the traditional "hat-toss" location.

Pictures and Video-Taping

Pearce Photo

On the night of graduation, Pearce Photo will be taking pictures of each senior receiving their diploma, as well as a group photo of the seniors throwing their graduation caps in the air immediately following the ceremony. All orders may be submitted prior to the ceremony directly to Pearce Photo either online at Pearce Photo or by calling Pearce Photo at 816-331-8586. Prices vary; please check the Pearce Photo website or call their office for pricing.

There is no area on the floor or in the aisles of the Auditorium for pictures, cameras, or video cameras. For safety, fire code regulations, and handicapped seating, opening spaces and aisles on the floor level will be kept clear.

Community of Christ Auditorium Access

The auditorium has four entrances: north, south, east, and west. The west entrance is the main parking area (off Crysler St.) of the auditorium. Reserved seating for graduates is provided. Uniformed police officers as well as off duty LSPD officers and a hired event security company will assist in crowd control, emergencies and traffic safety.    View Driving Directions

The west entrance to the Auditorium has wheelchair accessibility and seating. A circle drop-off area is at the west entrance. The auditorium has other handicapped seating on the floor level east side. Elevators and ramps are available inside the auditorium. Diploma Pick-up

If you do not pick up your diploma the evening of graduation, you may do so in the front office of Lee's Summit North begining Thursday, May 16, 2019 during office hours from 7:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m. daily Any student having an outstanding obligation (fines, owed discipline, community service) will not receive a diploma.
